Red Tickets - These are a good thing!

S = Safe
O = Outstanding Effort
A = Always respectful
R = Responsible

In order to support the development of positive school wide behavior, we have created a variety of positive behavior supports to encourage students to "SOAR". At Mountlake Terrace Elementary, one of our goals is to support all students leaving our school as responsible, respectful, caring, and compassionate individuals dedicated to life-long learning. One of the ways that we address this is by ensuring that behavioral expectations throughout the school are well defined, explicitly taught, and positively reinforced for all students throughout the school year. These expectations are posted throughout the school as a reminder to both staff and students. Students seen "soaring" (being safe, showing outstanding effort, always being respectful and responsible) receive positive reinforcement through clear and specific compliments from others and Red Tickets. Students put their Red Tickets in a jar or basket in their classroom. Each morning one or two tickets from each classroom are pulled and the Red Ticket winners bring their tickets to the office for high-fives and celebration. The names on these winning tickets are read on the school announcements the next morning. All Red Tickets are placed in the Red Ticket tube in the office and when this is full, the entire school earns an extra recess. Red Tickets and extra recesses are a reminder to everyone to notice what we are all doing well and the good decisions students make every day.
