Principal's Letter

Welcome to Mount Lake Terrace Elementary School. I am overjoyed to be joining the MTE school community and to be serving the students, families, and faculty as the principal of our school.  Working alongside such highly skilled, caring, and committed educators here at MTE is truly a privilege. I am looking forward to partnering with staff, families, and community organizations to provide the highest quality education for each of our students.

I have served in education for 36 years. I started my career in 1985 with the Anchorage School District in Alaska where I was a classroom teacher in grades K-6. Later in my career, I was a literacy and math instructional coach in Title I schools. In 2005, I moved to Southern California and accepted a position with the University of Washington, Center for Educational Leadership. For the past 16 years, I have partnered with school districts and schools across the United States, providing leadership and instructional coaching to improve teaching and learning through an equity-based lens. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Washington State University, a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University, and a second Master of Educational Leadership degree from the American College of Education. I have lived in Spokane, Washington for the past year and am excited to be returning to my family roots in the Edmonds community where I was born and lived until school age. In fact, both my older brothers attended Mountlake Terrace Elementary throughout their elementary school years!

It is my vision that each student, family, and staff member feel a valued member of our school community. At MTE, we welcome all that enter our doors, we embrace and value differences, and celebrate learning every day. I value and am committed to ensuring that every child’s physical, social, emotional, and academic needs are met every day at MTE. It is my responsibility to maintain and continue to grow a supportive and collaborative environment at our school. We are stronger together and it is through coming together as a community that we will meet the challenges of the future and grow in innovative and positive ways for our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with celebrations, concerns, or needs. I can be reached through the main office telephone at: 425-431-7894 or via email. I am excited to launch our 2021-22 school year as a school community.
