MTE Clothing Policy

We encourage full expression of our personalities and cultures. With that in mind...

  • Clothing and shoes worn by students should in no way inhibit their ability to fully participate in the school curriculum, including P.E. and recess activities.
  • Clothing with inappropriate language and/or clothing that portrays violent, alcohol-related, tobacco-related, or drug-related pictures and/or slogans will not be permitted.
  • Clothing that allows undergarments, torsos, or midriffs to be visible will not be permitted. Shorts and skirts must extend past the top third of the thigh. Students should be able to reach up or bend down and remain covered.
  • Hats and hoods: This is a classroom teacher decision. Hats and hoods are off in public spaces, such as at lunch and during assemblies. Hats are always acceptable at recess. Religious head coverings (i.e. hijab or turban) are always acceptable.

A violation of the dress code will require a change of clothing. Special circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If there is a disagreement regarding the dress code, the administrator will make the final decision.

Policy revised with significant input by MTE 6th Graders, June ‘19
